Reasonable Tempura in Saga

Enjoying Japanese food is one of the highlights of visiting Japan, isn't it?

Nakamura(那かむら)in the Yume Town Saga shopping mall is perfect for those who want to enjoy tempura reasonably.

To make customers enjoy crunchy tempura, the restaurant serves each tempura every time it is deep fried. Menus are written in both English and Japanese. I recommend Variety Set B, 896 yen tax included.

While waiting for tempura, customers can pick pickled radish and Japanese apricot flavored enoki mushroom from containers on the table.

Rice, sauce, miso soup, tea and a rectangle plate are on the tray. On the plate, there are pink rock salt, lemon flavored salt to eat with tempuras, along with grated radish and ginger to put into the sauce. Chopsticks are in a wooden box on the table. Free refills on rice.

Dipping tempura in the sauce is a common way to eat but with salt is also delicious.

When I ate there, they served tempuras in this order:
shrimp, fish, chicken, shiitake mushroom, eggplant, squid, pumpkin. The picture showed the mushroom and eggplant.

If you can't eat any of the above, it is best to ask the restaurant.
I heard shrimp can be exchanged for any tempura in the set such as chicken or vegetables because it is the most expensive. Chicken can be exchanged only for vegetables. This is good news for vegetarians, I suppose.

The shopping mall, accessible by bus from Saga Station, has world famous MUJI and UNIQLO.
What's more, just looking around in Loft and Francfranc shops are also fun because they offer various kinds of goods from bento boxes to cute massage cushions.

Tiger Air Taiwan, a Taiwanese LCC, has already started a flight from Taiwan to Saga and is expected to have regular flights in the fiscal year 2017.

I hope more visitors from overseas will enjoy Saga, a compact city to enjoy eating and shopping:)

Happy 2025!

Happy New Year 2025 ♡ I hope you all had great holidays!  During Christmas, I visited Okinawa. Here are some I would like to share with you. The picture above shows traditional dance "Yotsutake" which used to be performed at the palace in Okinawa during the Ryukyu Kingdom (1429-1879) to entertain delegates from China.  I saw ten dance performances at a restaurant Urashima in Naha City where I also enjoyed local food, including pig ear (the white dish in the photo below). I was bit worried about whether I could eat it, but it turned out to be delicious enough with a savory peanut flavor. I wouldn't have realized it was pig ear if I hadn't been told.  The sashimi was fresh from the Naha Port. Orion Beer was a local brand and I ordered a non-alcoholic one. Customers were allowed to take pictures and videos of the performances and we could even take photos with the dancers after the show. The food and performances exceeded my expectations. On top of that, the attitude of ...

Kyushu's Local Ramen Varieties

We had snowy days last week even in Saga. When it gets really cold, I start to crave ramen.  This ramen set comes in a pack of seven, allowing me to enjoy ramen from all the seven prefectures of Kyushu at home. In my experience, this is the best-tasting one which I bought at the ANA shop at Saga Airport for about 1900 yen. The noodles are semi-fresh and need to be boiled for about two minutes. The instructions said to pour hot water into the soup base to dissolve it in a ramen bowl, but I put the drained needle to the pot, added the soup base and some hot water, then brought it to a boil because I love hot, steaming ramen.   For toppings, I used half of a boiled egg, Saga seaweed, bamboo shoots. The ramen in the photo was from Oita Prefecture, featuring a kabosu (a citrus fruit) flavor because Oita is famous for kabosu . Although I didn't have kabosu , I enjoyed the soup with a light soy sauce flavor. I was able to finish the soup because is was not salty. I hope you will en...
