Pocky Day!



Today is Pocky Day in Japan, marking the 20th anniversary this year since its establishment in 1999.

It is actually Pocky and Pretz Day both of which are stick type snacks resembling number one. For this, the day is on the 11th day of the 11th month of the year.

Pocky, chocolate-coated biscuit sticks, was first sold in 1966 by Ezaki Grico.

Having more than 50 years of history, I guess, almost all Japanese people have eaten Pocky at least once in their lives. Pocky is evolving with so many varieties now. I bought two of them at the supermarket.

In the picture, the blue box is a seasonal limitied Pocky with crushed coconut and the red box is a strawberry chocolate-coated Pocky with crushed strawberry.

This year is a special Pocky Day with five 1s because of the succession of the new emperor: the first year of Reiwa emperor's period, the 11th day of the 11th month of the year.

Whether you eat pocky today or not, Pocky Day is a unique way to promote the product because it has succeeded in reminding people of Pocky:)

Happy 2025!

Happy New Year 2025 ♡ I hope you all had great holidays!  During Christmas, I visited Okinawa. Here are some I would like to share with you. The picture above shows traditional dance "Yotsutake" which used to be performed at the palace in Okinawa during the Ryukyu Kingdom (1429-1879) to entertain delegates from China.  I saw ten dance performances at a restaurant Urashima in Naha City where I also enjoyed local food, including pig ear (the white dish in the photo below). I was bit worried about whether I could eat it, but it turned out to be delicious enough with a savory peanut flavor. I wouldn't have realized it was pig ear if I hadn't been told.  The sashimi was fresh from the Naha Port. Orion Beer was a local brand and I ordered a non-alcoholic one. Customers were allowed to take pictures and videos of the performances and we could even take photos with the dancers after the show. The food and performances exceeded my expectations. 春の募集♡2026
